ran out of oil
I had my oil changed, and the goofball didn't tighten up the drain plug properly....the oil all blew out, and someone told me that it was gushing out while I was driving......I pulled over, and it looks like a lot more oil came out after my car was turned off.....I had a plug put back on, and refilled the oil.....the question is....how can I tell if any damage occured to my 2003 accord 2.4 vtec engine?
well the engine seizes if there is no oil. so as long as there is oil, it should be okay, even a little oil will prevent the engine from seizing.
not sure how to check....
not sure how to check....
Hopefully, you've reciepts showing that the oil was changed by this ^&%*$#@ idiot. That way you've got some recourse IF something should happen. At the very least, I'd put him (them) on notice of the incident, and present them with the diagnostic bill to have the engine checked out.

They will pay for you to get it looked at, at the dealer.

sounds like you got LUCKY. if it ran dry while running you'd be looking at a new motor. did your oil light come on before you shut it off?
does it run the same as before?
to those of you saying have the dealer check it out, are you suggesting that he have the dealer pull the pan, rod caps, and mains to check the condition of the bearings? before you do that you'd better be sure the shop will pay the inspection bill because that's going to cost you $$$$.

I hope honda didn't do that.....
Thats why you NEVER take your car any place else than a dealer....cus A. Everybody else won't know the proper procedure....that means they'll strip out your drain bolt, replace it with one of theirs, over/under torque your drain bolt / filter, and underfill / overfill your engine with crappy oil... Thank god I work for acura, nobody will ever touch my car again...
Back to the topic at hand, get whoever did it to pay for the full diagnostic fee, including tearing your bottom end apart, its better to THOROUGHLY check and make sure damage didnt occur than have them check it quickly, then have problems down the road and no possible way to claim it....

The dealer will charge you ungodly amounts of money for nothing. They will tell you there is **** wrong with it and there is nothing. An oil change is an oil change. If you cant do it yourself, then dont touch you car. You think only a dealer can work on cars? Haha I know a few guys that work at various GM and Honda dealers, and they have no training and were hired off the street. They arent the certified techs you think they are.

i say get things in writing. if you do, it makes things a whole lot easier.</TD></TR></TABLE>
You dont think other shops would back up the customer? A customer can make a scene in a store and can turn most things in their favor. If the customer calls right away and not wait a few days they are much more likely to get compensation. Ive seen dealers refuse to redo work. The guys at my local honda dealer are asses.

haha, u wanna hear some reality? my father used to goto this retarded independent mechanic, and there was an employee A, who fucked up his car on time.
and guess who i see in a nice shiny honda uniform working as a honda dealer mechanic a few weeks later? thats right employee A.
I guess he learned all the proper procedures in a few weeks eh?
dealer mechanics can be as incompetent if not even MORE incompetent than independent shops, so bring it to the dealer is not a sure thing, other than the painful feeling in your ******* after they bend you over while paying for your bill

thanks for all of your comments.....what a few people told me, is that if there were any damage, I would have heard engine knock or tapping already......and the fact that there was between 2 and 3 quarts that came out after I shut the engine down, most likely saved me....the car IS running great now....so I'm just hopeful that everything is ok.....I'd be a little hesitant to have them break down my engine, for fear of another problem cropping up....when I went to the dealer, they wanted me to have them change a fuse, and charge me for it....saying that I would spark the other fuses......I think they are really in business to rape and pillage the ignorant owner.....they wanted to charge me 425.00 for a 30K checkup....it was 90% inspection and a tire rotation and oil change.....I have a manual tranny, so they weren't even going to service that
