Help with CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!
Alright guys, my emissions test is coming soon and I need to get rid of my check engine light, but I don't know what it is that's making the light go on.
Specs: 97 ITR motor on 97 civic hatch.
obd-2 converted to obd-1 with obd-1 gsr ecu
dc 4-1 header w/ test pipe connected to a RsR GT2 exhaust
only 1 o2 sensor because they told me that's all I needed(connected on test pipe)
My redline is weird cuz it redlines at around 7200?!?!?
They told me to get a catalytic converter and get a new header with a o2 bong so that I can put one o2 sensor before and after the cat. Then they told me to get a 98 gsr ecu.(I don't know why)
But what I need to know is how will I be able to get the check engine light off. My car runs fine but its running too rich and it redlines at 7200 instead of the normal ITR redline. If anyone can help me out and give me the specs they did to their ITR swaps would be really helpful. -thanks

your header doesnt have a 02 bung already?
2nd i beleive the obd-1 conversions are not legal for street use and for "off road use only"
thats why there telling you to get a 98 ecu....i am not sure if that will even work with the obd-1 conversion harness.
OBD-2 engines have two 02 sensors one before and after the cat.
If i were you..... go to local performance shops and tell them you need smog....im sure someone will help you and it will cost ALOT less than spending all the time, money, and effort to get it smog'd.

first off you are not going to pass smog with a test pipe. get a cat converter in there and make sure your o2 sensors are bothed hooked up. some shops are coo just as long as you pass the visual meaning alll the smog devices are hooked up and working properly
thanks..but I'm still curious to what kind of ecu I should get. Because like i said, with this chipped obd-1 gsr ecu i have, the redline is like at 7200. So what would be a good obd-2 ecu to use to get the motor running in its original ways?

did they wire in KS wire ? which engine harness did you use ? what CEL number ? count them
put an OBD2a GSR or b16a ecu, put in an O2 simulator (I have one for sale if you want), connect up the charcoal canister.
If it really is a P72 OBD1 ecu you're runnign, they it sounds like your VTEC oil pressure sensor is not connected and you get an early rev limiter cutoff.

thanks cheetah. I'm going to look up on these things. I know I do have a obd-1 gsr ecu for sure, But i think whats making my car redline at 7200 is my vafc. Cuz my friend took a look at it and he said it might be the vafc. But anyways. Not familiar with alot of parts. What's an o2 simulator?
oh yeah sorry guys, but as long as we talkin bout getting my engine running normally. It is also running way too rich and was wondering what I can do to fix it after i get it back to obd-2?
