I have the turbo xs hpmbc which is based on the ball and spring design and it works great no boost spikes at all.

I got a hallman MBC here, it was like $40 on egay.

NEVER had a boost spike, holds psi steady all day long. I love this boost controller.

The TurboSmart MBC is a combination of a bleeder valve and ball and spring.

The ball and spring help the turbo to spool quickly, and then the ball is pressed against the spring and there is a bleeder valve that vents off boost.

IMO it's the best MBC out there. I don't have any personal experience with the Halman though, but I've heard nothing but good things about it too.

I had a TurboXS one time that was terrible. I don't know if it was the design or a defective unit. But I had all kinds of problems with it and ended up selling it.
