If you have a manual dig it out and look up the wiring diagram. Best place to start, generally.
Could just be the lever switch. It's usually a little "normally-open" pushbutton switch that the brake lever butts against.
But more likely, it's a bad connection somewhere in the lever-switch circuit, so the circuit stays open all the time.
p.s. I think Optikal was making a comment similar to yours. Do a little research before you ask questions. And bear in mind that it is rather difficult for people to diagnose problems over the internet—any and all legwork you can do, you should do. Post a question in a forum as a last resort, when you are genuinely lost.
But in that case, you're probably better off just taking it to your LBS. They have people there that won't be lost, and know how to use continuity testers, jumper wires and multimeters. Which you probably don't, since you're asking people on the internet (remember, nobody lies on the internet) why your brake light doesn't activate when you only apply the front brake.

was the brake lever ever replaced? i bought an aftermarket lever and it did not work right,it was always pressing in on the switch that activated the brake light to come on,so i had to shave off some of the lever.
