I want to swap a K20 I-Vtec into my 04 Civic....my questions are...about how much will the K20 run me?(engine alone...i cant seem to find it online) and will i need to get a different tranny? or can I keep the one i have?...its abit of a noob question,..but yeah,..help is appreciated

Which K20 are you looking to get? A K20A can run you $5K+ or a K20A2 can be had for probably $3.5K. Don't even think about a K20A3, you'll be disappointed.

search, all i have to say. poke around on http://www.7thgencivic.com specifically or any other k-series sites.

you will need a k-series tranny to go with it, no doubt.

the swap could run you from $5k to $10k, depending on where you get your stuff (a donor car will save you a ton)

k20a2 is from the 2004 and under acura rsx type-s.

and if you're going to wait for your engine to crap out on you, you're going to have to wait a very, very long time.

try jhpusa.com
they might have a k20 swap available.

i would imagine that maybe after the d17 craps out(year or 2) that the K's would be somewhat cheaper .. at least thats what im hoping for ..

Wow, what an opportune time to make your first post.
You're going to need much more than just the engine and tranny. Here's a starting list:
Engine
Tranny
Ecu(RSX-S[w/Hondata K-Pro], DC5 Type R, or AEM EMS)
Aftermarket TSX or custom header
Motor Mounts(Hasport or Hybrid Racing)
RSX Engine Harness
RSX Charging Harness
Custom exhaust midpipe
B or D series coolant temp sensor and fan switch
Axles(either a mix of RSX and your car's or custom)
I would recommend picking up the Karcepts shifter mount kit
RSX shifter box
RSX shifter cables

There may be a couple other things I'm forgetting. Stop by http://www.k20a.org, there are a lot of us on there who have either completed our swaps, are in the middle of doing so, or are still contemplating the idea. Hope this info helps.

I'm in the middle of a build. I pulled the K20a2 from my Type-S so that didn't cost me anything but I'm anticipating to be at 2.5K in parts alone and that's not including the AEM EMS or the shell I just bought. Oh that also doesnt include the cost of upgrading my tranny to an ITR.

You can do the swap on a budget, I would have been at around 1300 if I hadn't decided to buy my harness and racing headers.

I dunno about that. 160 HP in his car would be a substantial increase. What's he got now? 130 HP? 125?

Have you ever driven a K20A3? It's really quite a solid, pleasantly driving, torquey little motor.

Another advantage is you have all these EP3 people moving to all kinds of projects, and they will frequently let their K20A3 motors go for very little money.
