engine swap
I want to start looking around because I think I'm finally going to do my engine swap soon. i think i want to get an ls engine to drop in my car. does anyone know any good places to look for this. I want quality, not junkyard parts, but i don't want to spend a fortune either. I know there have to be some decent priced, quality places out there. Any suggestions on where to look?

Re: engine swap (63Bmechanic)
thanks, I've been told the ls engine will pretty much just bolt right in, is this true? will it be compatible with pretty much everything i have now. can i keep my si tranny in it? I'm tryin to be fairly inexpensive, or as much as possible without hurting my car.

Re: engine swap (austinkli)
http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.co...1fe22 that tells what you need to do the swap, recommended swaps, and if you click on honda, you can buy engine/ trans combo's and swap stuff.

Re: engine swap (jhammond_82)
thanks, can you tell me what a long block engine is. I'm kinda new to this. I'm wondering why an SiR with 170hp is only $999. I keep seeing long block on these and all the long blocks are way cheaper. Why is that and what is a long block?

what do you guys think, i found some SiR engines with a lot of hp, and some ls engines with about the same, assuming the price was the same, and hp was the same, which would you guys go with and why, an SiR engine or an ls engine?

not disagreeing with you, but couldn't i get an ls then later put a vtech solenoid on it? I kind of want this car to be my project over the next year or two.

No, doesn't work like that...you'll need a B-series VTEC head to get what your saying. Honda assembled engines are incredibly reliable and durable, better than anything you could build in your garage.

Please start reading ALOT. This site has a wealth of information.
Im not even gonna get into the VTEC (vtech) thing.
Theres about 500,000 more things you have to do to make an LS/V then putting a solenoid on it. lol

Re: (ifIexplode)
So if I put an SiR in are there going to be 500,000 things i have to do since it's vtech or will it pretty much be a straight drop in since it already has the vtech? And which would be your personal suggestion. I'm not lookin to make a racecar out of it. Just something fairly fast i can enjoy driving.

You didn't ask me but I'm gonna answer anyway.
You won't have to do 500,000 things and it won't be a "straight drop" either. A 92-95 B16A swap is sooooooooo easy to do and there is TONS of info if you search.

You cannot bolt it directly onto the B block without mods. Sorry.
What I would recommend, if you can afford it, is to buy a complete engine - engine, tranny, ecu etc. from a company like Hmotors.

Re: (mcvtec)
that's what i'd like to do but i just can't afford it right now. Do you know a good website where i can find out what mods i'd need and how much they are? I just got my tranny and I'd rather not throw away $400

not really, I could just buy the mods. That's a lot cheaper than getting another tranny.
What's your suggestion, SiR or an ls engine?

Re: (jeremyowns18)
yea, good idea except that i can't really sell mine without already having a new one. i heard cars don't run very well without a tranny in it. My roommate was tellin me i could keep my tranny if i got some motor mounts and ****. is that true?

Re: (austinkli)
ive never heard of a D series motor being bolted to a B, i could be wrong and all tho. since your on a tight budget, try junkyards for a junked SI that came w/ a b16
