Default HELP!!!! Coolant is not circulating in my D16Z6 .

i just swaped a D16z6 into my 92 4dr civic dx 5 spd manual. Everyhting else is fine but i the coolant is not circulating. Anysujestions on where to look before i am forced to check the water pump (i really don't want to to do that) . i still have the wrong ECU i have a p06 and i need a p28... that probably has nothing to do with it but hey who knows.

get the right ecu..

then check waterpump and thermostat... make sure the waterpump works and that you have the OEM thermostat for the z6 and that it opens at the correct temperature...

also, make sure you have no bubbles in the system... fill it up with coolant

ECU wouldn't have anything to do with the coolant circulating. Like he said look for air bubbles & change the thermostat while you are at it. If that doesn't fix it than it's probably a bad pump.

no the ecu prob. wont be the fan problem. mine was the sensor on the thermostat housing(coolant temp. sensor) , put in a new one and prob. was fixed. that does not say that yours is going to be the same but I would start there. also get a volt meter and read for voltage at the harness that plugs into your fan.

At the most 8 bucks, reguardless its worth the time.

i was saying replace the ecu as a safety since you said you had the wrong ecu...

anyway, make sure the ground on the thermostat housing is clean and tight... sand it down if you have to and tighten it good (don't mess up the threads) but make sure it's tight

the reason the fans are not kicking in is probably because no hot water is getting to the coolant temp switch if it's not circulating. Get the circulating problem fixed and the fans will probably work. If not than check your connections, and the coolant temp switch. hope this helps.

the coolant is curculating now.... but the fans still don't kick in. i have the D16 engine harness in on it if that would have anything to do with it.

not unless you don't have it plugged in right because the harnesses are the same except for the vtec part. Just double check your connections and if they look ok you can try the coolant temp sensor. Did the fans work before you did the swap? If they did then the coolant sensor you got with the new motor is probably bad or you may have a blown fuse. Check the fuse for the fans. See if the sensor off the old motor is the same and just swap them. They should be, but if not you can pick one up pretty cheap.

check the related sensors and the ground on your thermostat housing... sand the metal and the ring connector and then screw it tightly

other than that, i'm thinking you have a shitty thermostat (or maybe non-OEM which opens up at higher temperatures)

could possibly be a wiring issue... dam there are many things..
