whats up everyone??
i just put a 1997 b18a in my 88 si and it has been bogging a little lately which then turned into a speratic(i dont know how to spell that?) bucking and then started to die on me especially at idle.......every once in a while it will just drop to like 500 rpm's, then it will try to stay alive for a few seconds but then just die, but when i try to hit the gas to raise the rpms it wont make a difference i can floor it and its like im not hitting the pedal at all the rpms stay down.....then it will die, sometimes it will start right up, and sometimes it will take a while to start it but this morning when i got to work it died and now it wont start at all?? wtf!! it just cranks...i can hear my fuel pump turn on and off, i just replaced my fuel filter, i used the dist off of my b16 and that has a new coil and ignitor in it! has anyone have this problem with their LS???
its not throwing any codes either.
i am thinking it could be the dist but i dont want to waste the money buying one and it not be that.........so can someone please help me out!! thanks!

pull a spark plug and put it near a ground. see if it sparks.

make sure your getting fuel as well. you can check the injectors or fuel rail for that.

if all that checks out , i don't know what to tell you.

maybe a vacuum leak????

I got the same problem but mine starts. Its not the fuel or spark for mine. but it sound like you spark plugs are very old in youcar. try check that. ANybody else know what the hell is wrong with it?

 

ok well i have no spark so i just went and bought some MSD ignition stuff and i am going to go try to get my car home and then install the MSD stuff on and hopefully it will fix the problem since i dont have spark!
i will post back after i hook this stuff up..............i went and bought the blaster ss external coil and a cap and plugs and stuff so hopefully it will work!

OK........well i threw another internal coil in and it started and everything but it still bogs and dies so i think it is also bad .........and the MSD dist cap i got is wrong ! crap! well i get the right one tomorrow. and hopefully i will get it tomoorow........i guess i have to drive my brothers turbo ZC to work tomorrow....darn! ........well ill post the results tomorrow.

I have a 1995 LS in my 88Si. How did you hook up your vacuum? Are you using your CRX injectors? The Si harness also?

I would suggest getting a 90-91 LS distributor.

 

Yah i used the si harness with the 97 injectors, i just moded them to fit with a dremmel ........... i have the vacuum the only way that works and i took off the dash pot......runs a lot better! and i need the teg distrib....right now im using my b16 dist and it doesnt fit too well
(only 1 arm!) but it works for now.
but i love my LS so much faster then the b16 adn my turbo will be on as soon as my car runs right. booooooosssttttt= fun!

the exact same thing was happening to my 91 si. so first we changed the fuel and fuel filter and nothing, then the plugs and wires and nothing, then finally we pulled the wires out and put new plugs in the end of the wires and let them rest on the valve cover... when we cranked the motor only 2 of the plugs would spark and other two were just chillin, so i replaced the distributor and wow, it runs perfect... hope this helps man
