starting problems
the past two days my motor has been shutting off without any warning... kind of like if you run out of gas while driving... especially if i get on it... when it turns off it has problems starting back up and when it did it last night it would not start up again... there is gas in the tank and im getting spark... the motor will fire up with starting fluid but only for a few seconds of course... and my fuel pump is priming... my buddy told me it is probably either sticky injectors or one of my fuel system relays went bad... can anyone tell me where all the relays are that have anything to do with the fuel system and any other suggestions on what could be the problem.... oh btw its a '91 civic std hatch with a d16z6 and rywire harness(awesome piece btw)... thanks a lot guys

ttt... oh and i pulled the fuel line off of the fuel rail and put it in a bucket... after i primed the fuel pump and tried to start the motor there was a pretty good amount of gas in the bucket so i know im getting gas to the injectors... what could be causing the injectors not to open up? also is there any way to take them out and clean them up myself? thanks

well i had my car towed over to a buddies house and we tested out all of the injectors and they all turned out fine... tested to see if the injectors are getting a signal and they are... put a spark plug tester on each of the plug wires and BAM!! no spark... its odd though that starting fluid is ignited... so now im off tomorrow to see if my ignition module is bad... can anyone think of anything else? thanks

sounds like it could be your main relay. generally they have problems when they get hot and it would make your car die randomly and have trouble starting again. try searching up on the main relay. there like 50 bucks at the dealer, alot of people have posted about it and i read some and they had similar problems of yours. it happened to me too, heres the link to my thread about what happened to me and what people said. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1363987

Dude, it is the main relay. I had this problem with my old sweetheart and my new one. **** you not. It is right behind the hood lever. Bitch getting to it, we just pulled on the plastic and I worked it out. Ghost_ryder35 was correct right off of the bat.
The main relay goes bad after years of "flexing" in the heat and cold. 3 Civics and 2 CRX's have had this same exact issue about 2 months ago in my area. The part was actually $57 for me at a Honda parts center.
Wish you luck.

mine does this too, let your car sit over night and try starting it.
in hot weather mine can take up to 10 tries to click over.
main relay does more then just turn the fuel pump on/off.
it gives the ecu ground paths for the injectors, and misc controls.

yeah but the thing is my car wasnt really hot or anything... i already let it sit over night and nothing changed... and if the main relay was bad wouldnt it affect my fuel pump priming also? are all the main relays the same for all EF's? thanks

I do not know if they are all the same, though I wouldn't doubt it. Just look up the psrt number online and cross reference it. I do know that the fuel pump will still prime with or without a bad Main Relay though. That is why I replaced all of that stuff thinking it was the problem, when it really wasn't.
quick lil update: called all the junk yards around here trying to find one and only two of them had it... one wanted $50 and the other wanted like $30 so i was about to go pick it up and remembered that a guy down the street from me has a '91 4 door that he is just using for the suspension so i went down there and he gave it to me for free!! haha hell yeah... now i have to go to work but afterwards ill go see if i can get her to start up... thanks a lot for all the help guys

Wow, I am blown away... perhaps the parts coming from such an old vehicle are in the same condition, thus perpetuating the problem. Either way, I am stumped if that doesn't do it. Wish you luck.
UPDATE: alright i went and dropped $90 down at a junkyard for a dizzy... turns out that thing was clean... everything looked brand new on it... put it on the car and it started right up... even runs better than before... thanks a lot guys... im so happy right now
