Default Newcomer with some questions...tips and opinions welcomed

Im relatively new to the import scene...ive had a slow growing interest, but not until I bought my first and current car (98 Acura Integra GS) did I start to truly appreciate the scene and desire to want to learn all about it and especially how it all works...

Basically in a nutshell, Im looking for opinions or advice on what I could do to improve some power, performance and sound...At this time Im fully aware of forced induction systems, but would like to avoid that for now...

Things to consider is its a 1.8L b18b Non-Vtec engine with Auto transmission
and at this time I already have an AEM cold air intake, DC 2pc 4-2-1 headers, Tenabe HyperSpec Medallion Catback and an OEM prostreetline timingbelt replacement kit (about that time due to mileage)

In the near future im looking into gettin a magnaflow hi-flow cat, AEM cam gears, AEM tru power pulleys, Eibach Sportline lowering springs and probably new performance cams...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...also how much performance difference would i be looking at with new cams, cam gears and pulleys on a N/A engine

well i had researched the idea of an engine swap then changing to manual but to be completely honest i like auto and never really learned manual...which i know i could and its generally better and more fun to drive...then i could always get a lightweight flywheel, racing clutch, shortshifter and all that to help...but with the giving circumstances...not at this time anyways

just a couple things:

you have ONE header, so avoid using the term headers, use header....it's a sign of ignorance if you use the term headers

Switching to manual if all fine and highly recommended, but for the 'scene' it's not necessary. Depends what you want to do with the car.

What are the goals for this car? if they're just to add parts and become one with the 'scene' then go ahead and buy all the parts you want and put them on. as long as you're happy with the car who the hell else should care.

i personally think the best thing you can do to the car is a good suspension (coils/springs and shocks). Tires are also a key factor in any consideration for suspension.

hah thanks, to be honest when i read my thing over i was gonna change that, cuz i do realize that...but appreciate the heads up...also everyone does tell me about going manual...perhaps its something down the line i have to possibly consider...and when i say "scene" perhaps that is a generic partially ignorant term to use...but in general im really getting into cars and engines in general and how they work...its just nice to lift up my hood and know what the heck im looking at now, rather than a bunch of mechanical hieroglyphics...and i agree Sijray, im not really trying to impress everyone else...while that is nice, i just want myself to like it which you had said and is obviously most important

basically what i want to do is just get good solid performance and sound, nice noticeable hp and torque improvements without turning it into a racecar and not cripple the wallet as well...

just some good quality 'bang for your buck'

Then skip the cam gears until you have cams, they won't do much if anything.

Look into adjusting the pulldown cable (I think thats what its called, I don't have an auto) to get the engine to rev a little higher before shifting. Its a free "upgrade". My opinion, for the most noticeable differences; get a good suspension, meaning springs, shocks, and rear swaybar. Then a high flow cat would help the header/exhaust upgrade. After that, if you want more power, its time to consider either the turbo/supercharger route, or swapping internals.

Gonna be tough as long as your stayin with the auto. No offense to any of the auto teggers but I find it almost pointless to do bolt ons with auto cause the gains jsut arent gonna be worth it. If anything I'd lower it, get a nice set of rims and call it a day.

ok, dont ever do a manual swap. thats a waste of time and money. i dont know why people do that, better to just buy a stick.

but anyways, i say intake header exhaust, high flow or no cat. lower you car, rims. thats basically it for not emptying your wallet. after that its eitherturbo or upgrade your internals in the motor

i really appreciate all the feedback...i contemplated just doin a down pipe rather than a hi-flow cat, but it would make it a hassle with inspection...

ya, i drive an auto teg, and for now its staying auto. y spend $1500+ into an auto-manual swap when it wont even increase the valve of your car. i agree with happy_guy, if you really wanted stick, you could sell your car and buy a different teg.

but anyway.. i have pretty much the same upgrades on my auto teg. you should deffinatly look into a highflow cat, and lower your car. then do cams, and then cam gears. cams and cam gears are next on my list. Also, you can look into getting your ecu chipped.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by TunerN00b &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

this "pull down cable" sounds very intresting. i am deffinatly looking into that!

if you're going for the "show scene" then stick with the auto, but race scene , you need to change it up. That would be the only way to get real Hp out off your motor. For now stick with the LS non-vtec and manual<U></U> B16 tranny.
