Default How do you troubleshoot ignition system

I have bad mpg and tried all kinds of stuff. This is on my list.
How should I backtrack the problem (if any) anyone got a checklist?
Obviously I changed the spark plug and sparkplug wires, distributor cap and rotor.

Check the ignition timing and then change the fuel filter before you do anything else.

Did both fuel filter and air filter, tuned to 14.7 except for WOT (open loop)

Make sure you didn't jump time, meaning your cam gears and crank pulley are in the proper alignment and your timing is correct. Then have your coil and ignitor in the distributor checked. Also make sure your cat conv isnt clogged or failing.
