are you talking about a idle sound or a WOT sound? you wont get a deep idle tone with a small turbo, or almost any turbine in the exhaust stream for that matter

my friends lsvtec turbo has a great sound with 3 inch on a magnaflow. thats y im asking for what sounds good on a d series

depending on your power goals...just go 3" with a magnaflow oval...sounds real nice and deep

magnaflow has a ton of sound clips on their web page....i have yet to hear one raspy ricer sounding muffler from them

not so much louder, i just want more of the racing sound not the usual canister sound, if you know what i mean, more aggresive tone.

Then just do piping with no muffler and a resonator or open down pipe. It'll sound mean but not annoying.
