b16a head swap, any advantage over b18c?
someone mentioned to me today that there is an advantage to running a b16a head on a b18c block.
i have a GSR, i'm just wondering if i would gain anything from putting a b16a head on my car, i have a spare b16a head at home.

The B16/B17/ITR combustion chamber is NOT smaller in volume as compared to the '94-'01 GS-R combustion chamber. Therefore a B16 head will not will NOT raise your static compression ratio as compared to your GS-R head.
The B16/B17/ITR combustion chamber is 42.7 cc *
The '94-'01 GS-R combustion chamber is 41.6 cc *
* (I am going from memory. Correct me if I am wrong.)
The GS-R head is a good cylinder head. The GS-R intake manifold is not the greatest when you want high RPM power. Just switch to a Skunk2 intake manifold and you will be happy to did. Also raise your compression and get some good cams (ITR, CTR, Toda SpecA) to go with it.
Good luck.

as kenji, stated indeed the GSR head (p72) has smaller combustion chambers and is of different desing then the B16A/B18C5 (PR3) heads, as far as gains, don't bother, just go with skunk2 or JG intake manifold for high rpm power...
Yo,
You could use an ITR manifold with B16 head, but with Skunk2 mani fitting B18C head, that isn't really an issue, right?
Greg once commented on the two designs, something like the B16 flows a little better but the B18C head burns a little better? However, if you're going to port or do any headwork, I don't think it will make enough difference either way. IOW, don't switch unless something is wrong with the B18C head.
Other thoughts or corrections?

Well... if you were going FI it would drop your compression a bit to help prevent detonation. For NA it really doesn't make sense IMO
