i wouldnt get rid of P/S...u said ur civic didnt have it, and it wasent bad, well ur civic was made to be without it...the integra was made for it....im thinking it would be a pain to be without. Especialy when u have a huge aftermarket performance to make ur car fast without having to sacrifice luxury....keep it, if u ask me

think about it for a second. No one knows really why you're removing it. Are you removing it for better performance on the track? Or are you removing it because you heard or someone told you they did it to their car and they felt as if there was a jump in performance? Depending on what you're going after, removing it can have negative side affects. Then again...it may not. You may like it and you may feel that the car drives better. Who knows.....

like jdmomo said...it IS a pain in the *** after a while. Especially when trying to park your car in a parking lot

Pita in parking lots, but still possible.
plus it gives a much better feel on the road when you have stiff springs.
I've driven a car with suspension mods with no p/s, & then my car.
It doesn't feel as good with p/s when you have a stiff setup.
I'd take the p/s out if i wasn't on campus so much, or if i had the extra time.

I just took the belt off, it's a bitch in parking lots but you get used to it. It feels so much better on the freeway now, I drove my friends LS thats still got P/S, it felt soo sloppy. Remove the belt and see how it feels.

ummm.....I can't think of why right now...but I do remember reading, and seeing why JUST removing the belt can be VERY bad for your car.......hopefully someone can either correct me...or post up why.

My Integra felt great with no power steering, I loved every minute of it.

For reference sake, you can take the belt off to see how you like it and if you don't like it you can always put the belt back on.

Uhh, please do your studies on p/s because it has nothing to do with your highway driving. Did you know that p/s cuts off when you're driving above 15-20mph or so....not sure exact speed, but your p/s doesn't even work then so how do you know that w/out p/s your car is running better or smoother or whatever you think it is......

Say Kendall.....isn't there more to it than just removing the belt though? Especially if you plan on leaving it that way? I swear I read about that somewhere.........like...if all you did was remove the belt, something not so good will be in store for you later on down the road....or something like that.

dammit....I can't find any info

Not having P/S isn't bad. You get used to it fast. Yes, parallel parking becomes less enjoyable, but you'll be fine.

I went without P/S for years, but then finally decided I was tired of dealing with not having it. You get lazy when you get old.

To get any kind of weight benefit you need to remove the pump and the lines, but you will reduce the drag on the motor with just the belt removed. The issue a lot of people have is when you remove the lines, dirt can get in the rack, I've never had a problem, but it doesn't eliminate the potential. I say if you **** up the rack, then just go get another one.

yea...after searching on the good ol search monster here... I found this thread where pubestripe said:

link to thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1329981

even if you correctly remove the lines, it still is not going to be strong enough to support non power steering. you need to get a rack out of an eg that did not have ps, that is if u have a dc teg. if u have a da teg u need to get a rack out of an ef civic. these power steering racks were made for power steering, so overtime they will break.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

not too sure if he's 100% correct.

then I found a wonderful article for the originator of this post Its a damned good write up and I seriously recommend to at least take a look at it

Let's not worry about why he wants to do it. Just tell him what he needs to know. If you just take the belt off and leave the p/s rack on there, it will be a bitch to drive. I drove my friends WRX after his p/s failed and it is hard as **** to turn no matter how fast you are going. You should be able to use the same rack as a m/s honda civic. That will make it easier to deal with than just taking the belt off.

Honda Tuning magazine put out an article on taking the p/s off of a Type R.

Pulling off the belt frees up some horsepower by getting rid of the parasitic losses inherent in anything belt driven. It also sheds some weight.

BUT!!!!!!, By just pulling out the pump, belt, and lines leaves the rack unlubricated and vulnerable to premature wear and locking up.

The article is called "Old Dog, New Tricks" in the August issue with the dark blue prelude on the front. If you don't get the mag, go to http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com and look it up

THANK YOU!!!!! I remembered something detrimental would or could happen if all one did was JUST remove the belt and not take into consideration that there's other things needed to be done. I just couldn't remember it
