Speedometer Not Working. VSS? What VSS do I buy for a b16a tranny
Hey hey kids--
My speedometer recently stopped working and based on searches I assume its the VSS? That is unless somebody knows of another part that is more likely to fail in my set-up: 95 Civic Si, 95 Civic Si Speedo, obd1 b16a ECU/tranny (sorry, don't know codes off hand), and even though I'm 99% sure its unrelated, '00 gsr head and 92 b18a block.
Anyone know if I can use a 2000 Civic Si VSS on my tranny? or Anyone see anything else there that is likely to have a part fail causing my speedo to not work?

You can drive the car now... you don't need a speedo to drive around!
Which B16 tranny do you have? The hydro or the cable?
If it's a hydro tranny like a Y21, the 2000 Si (S4C) VSS will work as a replacement. It looks different, but it fits.
I don't know about the B16 cable trannys.

i have a b16 cable tranny in my car. 94 cx with b16 swap. i believe we used a vss from a h23. so im sure there are lots of different ones that will work.
Haha hondapwr, actually I had a course on powertrain dev. last semester where we had a c5 z06 corvette going x rpms in y gear and we had to come back and tell the prof. how fast it was going.
Regardless; its a hydro, so I guess I'll be callin up the local honda dealership for a bit of a 20 minute project (I'm assuming that thing is cake to replace?)
Thanks much

My VSS went out a few months ago. I didn't really care what speed I was going so it didn't matter.

nope..usually damaged teeth/gears cause it to malfunction...u can however pull it apart and clean it out..from the top where the connectors go on..to the middle where the ten bolts are, down to the bottom where the gears are...
