Default d16y5 into a 94 hatchback

so after many hours of research on how to get the best gas mileage, i have decided that i want to put a d16y5 into my 94 hatch. it's an obd2 motor and it uses the P2N OBD2 ECU. However my car is obd1. I want to use the VTEC-E function and i've thought of two options.

1. i can rewire my car to be obd2 and use the p2n ecu (i don't want to do this)
2. i can use some other ecu, i have a p05 that i'm not using, and i'm currently using a p06. could i use any of these or possibly a chipped p28 to run the motor while having some sort of switch in the car that engages/disengages the 3valve mode.
3. OR could i use a d15z1 92-95 vtec-e vx ECU?

it would be ideal if i could get option 2 to work. this way i could be cruising in 3valve mode at 80mph at ~3000rpm which is above the crossover on the p2n.

thanks in advance.

I have a y5 in my '92 dx. Well it's a Z6 block with a Y5 head. I use a chipped P28 ecu with uberdata to control the vtec-e and it works ******* great. Your best bet is to just convert to obd1 and do that, it is painless. And you can set the vtec engage to wherever you want to get crazy good gas mileage.

You can easily get over 50 mpg with a Y5

makes sense now. go with it.

i edited it to add option three. not my fault that you can't read. which is why the first reply mentioned something about gas mileage.

But the money and time you spend getting everything might equal what you would pay in gas.

which is very true, however it is a fun project and makes more economical sense than swapping to a b-series. plus my motor is burning about a quart of oil a week.

thats what I was gonna say... obd1 chipped p28 and uberdata. Personally if you can get 50 mpg I'd like to see that. I'm not calling bs or anything but I would like to see it. The absolute best I got out of mine is 435 miles out of a tank so that would probabaly be 40 or so mpg. I would love to see what a y5 could do in a hatch.
