I serously doupt some one will stop to de sodder your ecu to steal an R? If they get that close and they are still breathing your car is gone any way..

This pic has been posted several times before. They would simply swap to an OBD-I ECU with harness adapter before they would pop open your ECU and try to solder chips out...To answer the question, I do not believe that there is a way to do this without the CEL light coming on. You could alway get an OBD-IIa adapter and run a 97 or 98 ITR ECU.
How about the use of an JDM CTR ecu ? Since the early ones had the same p73 program i bet the late model was the same? Will it have an immoblizer?
I guess i should explain what we are up to. We have a GSR that is bult up to be a type r motor skunk 2 intake, all itr valve train and cams, header, etc. Running a 01 gsr ecu does not sound like fun and an 01 itr has an immoblizer in it.. So we are looking at all the options.

DC5 R of course it won't plug in or work.
as far as replugging you can, using the some plugs from junkyard and current harness and going with 96-98 ECU
