Default Fast Idle Thermo Valve - anyone NOT running one?

I think mine is busted. Do I really need this? what would be the result completely removing it and making a block off plate?

Thanks

People take them off or bypass them all the time. There's many threads about it...

wont your idle be too low if you block it?
mines bypassed right now but still sucks in a little air even if the white plastic screw is screwed all the way in...
in fact...my idle is a lot lower now that i tightened it all the way

The car will run just fine without it.

Just block the two "in" and "out" holes underneath the throttle body with some silicone sealant.

Mine is blocked off. If you just disconnect the coolant hoses, your idle will stay high.

To ask the dumbass question:

Why? What is this supposed to accomplish?

it does not accomplish anything ... the FITV raises the rpm on the engine during cold starts to help warm the engine up to normal operating temperatures... I would not like to be without it. When the engine warms up a little thermo wax plunger plugs up the hole and the car idles at normal 750 +/- 50 rpms...
