hey, i'm planning to do a swap on a 92-95 EG civic hatch. i want a motor that is good on gas and pulls pretty ok. i'm not going for extreme power. motors i'm thinking of are d15, d16, or b16. my price 1k. the cheaper the better. and does anybody know any place selling jdm motors for a good fair price, i'm located in the 714 orange county area. i'm willing to go pretty far to pick up the motor as long as its southern cali. I NEED OPINIONS thanks a lot.

 

For 1k, you can narrow it to D15 or D16.

I would opt for a D16, lil more power than a D15 and from I have been seeing finding a VTEC D15 is hard.

You don't haft to worry about running 91 octane fuel on the D15 or D16 unless you advance your timing,etc midgrade will be just fine, but to answer your question it just all depends on how it's tuned.

 

I just put a D16Z6 in my Dx hatch and I must say that it is a very nice upgrade. It pulls hard and is a lot of fun. I have I/H/E and some minor tuning stuff, and they are a quick little SOHC. Way better then my B7 that's for sure. Still great on gas and provides that extra kick with vtec .

whats a recommend tranny to use for a d16? and how much would it cost for a d16 with motor only and no tranny. for now i think i will use the stock civic tranny.

 

You should save a little more and get a b18b.
You won't won't feel sorry later on.
then again the d16 might fit your bill.

I would go with a b16a1, I had one of those shipped to the shop that did the swap on my old da for less than $1500 with tranny and ecu, if memory serves. That is a really nice engine for the money. Lots of upgrades available, but it pulls nicely in a stock configuration.

The cost varies depending on what you want out the motor. Its worth it if you do it right, which would cost you a bit, way over $1k. . .so in your case it might not be worth it.

 

I have a 1997 Honda Civic DX. I was wondering if there was a difference between motors from the US and Japan. Do the JDM motors have more horsepower than the USDM motors. For example, I was looking a B16 from Japan, and they said it had 160HP. Thanks.

 

A good tranny for your car is a 1996 - 2000 Honda Civic EX / SI tranny. The 1992 - 1995 would work too but the EK tranny's have the steel shift fork. So you wouldn't have to convert it. You can sometimes find the trannys for about 150.00 up. It's the best upgrade for your money.

 

JDM motors usually have more HP than the USDM counterparts, maybe 10HP or so.
