D16 vs Swap
How far can you take a d16?? All my buddies tell me that the D-series is crap & to do a swap. Honestly id like to push my d16 to a safe limit without doing damage to the motor. What modifications could i do to make my D-series quick?? Ive heard turboing would do it solid but I'm not trying to blow my motor... just a fyi, i am new to the honda world and am just looking for some good pointers from anyone interested in helping... Thanks

I know a bit just new to imports.. Just wondering what would be my best modification to get the most power out of the D-Series.. without going over about $1500...

I would boost it but of course you'd have to build the bottom and too ends of the motor. Depends what u want from your car. Do u wanna race it in the future make it quick incase people wanna *** wit u on the road lol. Or do u just wanna make it look nice and drive it it and just be cool kind if like a low and slow type of car. Depends what I want. If I were u I'd just put a nice intake, intake mani, a TB, exhaust, and header. Maybe a nice fuel rail and a fuel reg

Depends what U wanna do to it. Wanna make it a little fast? Or just be you and enjoy it and drive around for looks kind of like a low and slow show car. If u plan on racing in the future or maybe people trying to *** wit u on the highway and wanna lock it up wit them I'd build the top and bottom ends of the motor. Boost it and of course build the motor. If not I'd do basic things like header, intake, intake mani, TB, exhaust, spark plug wires, fuel rail, and a fuel reg.

You could go boost but you might be able to find a swap for less money than a turbo kit. I had a D16Y8 in my EK and swapped it out for a B18C1. My single cam was slow as hell and had all kinds of issues. I got the entire swap installed for $1660 and I still have the option to boost it

i want to make it quick and incognito... sleeper.. when you say rebuild from bottom up do you mean new cranks, rods, and pistons, bearings, etc..?? with doing all that work on the D-series wouldn't it be just as much to do a swap???
If i did a B-series Swap would i have to get all new trans, ecu, axles, and shift linkage??

^^^^^ I have a 94 civic hatch that had a d15b8 slow as f**k swaping for a gsr real soon.

Exactly. The ecu, shift linkage, axles, mounts, etc, were all included. The entire changeover was $1660. You're swap might be incomplete if you just have the h22 and trans, and it will come out to be alot more than just $1600

OP the d16 has low limits even when boosted they can handle around 200whp FI any more and the cost exceeds what it's worth. I'd recommend a properly built B20V I've currently got mine pushing 234whp N/A...for roughly around the cost of a turbo'd D16 and I still have plenty of room for more power.
