92 prelude wont start when cd player's hooked up!!???
Im having a problem with my 92 prelude si, for some reason when you first try to start it turns over but doesn't sound like its getting any spark and it will just keep turning over, then i disconnect the cd player and as soon as i turn the key it fires up and runs great. after its running i can hook the cdplayer back up and it will still run and if i cut it off it will turn back on with the cd player hooked up its only when the engine is cold i guess. ANY IDEAS?!?!?!
also my climate control doesn't switch the vents its stuck on defrost if you push the other buttons they will light up but it doesn't do anything??

a friend wired the cdplayer up to the deck side harness all i did was plug it in to the dash harness. also there is 2 plugs (blue and gray i think) behind the cd player that don't plug into anything im thinking they plugged into the factory radio?
lets see... this one is very ez... Phateless is right.. whoever wired the radio gets my idiot awards for the week... BTW... yellow isnt always 12v and red isnt always ACC... Just a fair warning some stereos are like that... That would explain your problem... To fix it you need get a wiring harness that fits.. Go to crcuit city and buy smart harnesses that will keep you from doing as you have...
Next, the blue and grey plugs that dont go to anything... Well, the blue plug is your OB1 connector... basically, you jumper it to check codes... It doesnt hook into the radio... The grey one is the same kind of thing, although its used for another thing... LEAVE it alone...
Last, your A/c controls have nothing to do with this stuff... They are a seperate issue your going to have to deal with... SEARCH for the writeup on fixing them.. Maybe someone will link it here for you...Basically, you have to resoder the connections and they will work like new... Its a common usage issue.... Thanks...

by the way, you NEVER want to splice into the factory harness. you want to buy a harness adapter and wire your stereo up to that. if you do a search on here you can probably find a link to a pinout to make sure the right wires go to the right places. also, go to the website of the maker of your headunit and you can probably find a pinout for that too. just to prevent any more screwups.
i searched last night on the climate control and figured out what it was.
the cd player isn't spliced into the factory harness its wired into one from crutchfield (or some place) that plugs into the factory harness. its prolly 10 years old though i guess i'll go buy a new one and wire it up myself this time. I should have known it was wired up wrong because at first he had it wired so that whenever the cd player came on the running lights would come on and vice versa. he had the orange wire spliced in with the red wire lol.

lol.. shoulda just cut off the orange wire... Ya, wiring sounds like a mess to me..
just dont connect orange or orange w/white for starters... if you want a full layout let me know, and ill write it up as to wiring.. although it should be simple enough..

well i found out that the problem wasn't really the cd player, it was a ground wire that was soldered to the antenna wire where it goes into the cd player. i disconnected the wire and waited 3 minutes and it would crank up, cut it off and cranked it up 5 times in a row, connected the ground wire back up and it would cut on and cut right off and woudln't crank again. then i'd disconnect it and it wouldn't crank until i let it sit for 3 minutes then it would crank right up. wierd?? anyway i haven't had a problem with it cranking up since i left it disconnected so we'll see how it goes. PS don't buy cars that have been pre-wired by IDIOTS
