Default textbook scam...right?

so this guy who is interested in buying my car sends an email which kinda seems weird to me. what do you guys think? he says that he is arranging the sale for a client.

Hello, XXXX

I am writing to inform you that my customer is satisfied with the in formations, which you stated, and he is willing to purchase your car for $23,000.
My customer is buying this car as a birthday gift for the wife, and due to the limited time range that we have, he has instructed that we go ahead with the payment and pick up arrangements immediately
PAYMENT AND PICK UP ARRANGEMENTS.
The former company where my client made an order refused to make a cashier check of your exact amount, they said they can only make out ONE cashier check in respect of the cancelled order according to the company policy.
Now our client has instructed that the cashier check be made in your name provided you will return the difference to the agent, for the agency fees, shipping and pick up costs, and other expenses that will come up before the final delivery..
The check is in the amount of ($30,500) As soon as you receive payment, you are required to deduct the agreed cost of your car which is ($23,000),and send the balance of ($7,500),to the agent via western union international transfer to enable him start making arrangements for pick up.

PICK UP ARRANGEMENTS.

As soon as the agent receives the balance, he will book a flight and also call you to make arrangements on the day to come for pick up.

PAYMENT INFORMATION.
As soon as the check gets to you, you are required to deduct the cost of your car, and send the balance to the agent.
Your information should be in this format below, to avoid mistakes.

1) NAME

2) ADDRESS

Sounds reasonable to me.
I guess you don't really want to sell your car for $23,000.!?

Well ok...have him send you the money. If it clears and proves to be legitimate then maybe you can deduct the $7300 and send it back to him. Otherwise.....cash first.

I doubt that will happen though Like Mythias said...this definitely sounds like a damned scam

or...you can up the price of the car to the idiot to the exact amount of money he's sending....

I would suggest providing that individual's information to the proper authorities. It's unfortunate that people lose their hard-earned money to such blatant scammers.

BTW, for anyone here who isn't immediately convinced that this is a scam:

It's definitely a scam. A common one, too.

And it almost certainly comes from outside the United States, so that it would be difficult to reclaim your money when you find out that they don't send you a $30K check or it bounces. Also, so that it takes 3-4 weeks (sometimes more) for their check to bounce.

Any time you're selling something, and someone asks YOU to give THEM money, that means they're trying to rip you off.

lol, they all seem to be overseas. I was e-mailed by someone in Africa stating that if I followed his instructions I'd be given like a generous portion of $35 million USD that was sitting there on hold or some kinda BS....

it's funny how all of a sudden there are a million posts about scams on ht. it's as if this hasn't been going on for the past 8 years from the nigerian scams to these where they want you to pay back the difference or keep it. where has everyone been the whole time?

It's as easy as when you receive $30k, deposit the check to the bank and wait til it clears...

I would play with him...

This is definately a text book scam...You will deposit a fake check and write a 7300.00 check against it. Your car and you 7300.00 will be gone before the check comes back fraudulent. Most of these are from foreign countries using the internet as a moneymaker which explains the poor grammer and sentence structure. Run like hell!

My understanding of how these scams work is that they're after your $7300, and you're not going to lose your car.

Correct. Because he'd be stupid to actually fly out to pick up the car after he's screwed you over.
