INTAKE SUGGESTIONS NEEDED!
Here's the information you want :
What should I buy? --- Ebaymotors.com my friend and just find a cheap intake, as stated, a pipe is a pipe.
What should I be aware of? --- 1. When buying on Ebay find a company/person who provdies a set of directions (If you dont feel comfortable) and all necessary hardware for install. 2. Putting on the intake will increase noise from your engine, at wide open throttle or from 3000 to redline the intake will just roar, but of course most people like that!
So according to the box I'm getting 15 hp?! - NO! Don't believe the hype and ads, An intake whether its a Short ram in a well designed bay, or a CAI, your going to gain about 3-4 HP on an all-else stock car.
Which is better, SR or Cold Air Intake? - A cold air intake will net you more low to mid-range power, but really fall off in the upper RPM's, espcially if you have VTEC, and that can be explained because of the length of the piping. A short ram intake will give you a little less low/mid range power, but outperforms CAI's on the top end. Personally I have a SR intake with a custom heat shield ( plus battery shielfs heat as well ). For street performance and daily driving cold air intakes are best, but be aware power falls off 2-3 horses on the top end.
What about torque? - You will gain around 3 ft/lbs of TQ, But with a great setup thats correct for your motor, I've seen dyno's show 5 and almost 6 ft/lbs ( but this was coupled with header and exhaust )
I've heard CAI's can funk your engine? -- If your getting a CAI make sure you either are careful when driving in downpours when there is water pooling on the road or you put in a air-bypass to protect your engine. AEM makes a valve to protect you from locking your motor up. Water + Engine = No engine anymore.
*Will a short ram ruin my engine in the rain to?* No Short rams have the filter inside the bay so this is not a concern.
Side note - Dont leave any Vaccum hoses d/c! And dont forget to disconnect your battery for 15 mins...then reconnect the battery and start your engine and leave it idle for 10-15 mins to let the ECU reset and re-learn.
Hope this helps

I believe its the other way around..
but anyway Get AEM V2 if you have no budget, or Ebay with K&N Filter if you do.

Nope that's the way it is, VTEC and high rev's dont like CAI's and fall off when VTEC engages, this has been Dyno proven on various Honda's both DOHC and SOHC. On your car the best intake out there is from Comptech which combines the short length piping but still draws in cold air from outside the bay, it looks like a modified stock air box almost its called a "Ice Box "

What's with that V2? Will it make more horsepower than the avg cai?

It also depends on the weather temp. your driving in. I.E. i live in mesa az and a cai in the middle of the summer means shyt... just a bunch of lag. in the winter however its nice to have on there because there is a 50-60 degree change.
That's why i have two ebay specials
Summer (110+) = Short ram
Winter (50-60) = CAI
so remember to factor that in.

Yes. I live in iowa, so its nice in the fall, winter, and spring. because its always cooler. I have a 2pc intake so it takes me about 5 minutes to change from sri to cai.
