2001 civic 80,000 miles, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. Having trouble going into 1st or 2nd. Fluids are Ok and no leaks at the slave. Goes into 3rd 4th 5th and reverse fine... feels like you could force it. Anyone delt w/this before??

Just found out that a little helping pressure w/my hand on the shift lever (on the tranny) and it goes right into 1st / 2nd. Could it just be time for a lube change? Is there an adjustment on the shift cable??

 

Could be the clutch going bad, or it could be the syncros. Try using pennzoil synchromesh MTF and see if it makes a difference.

 

I wondered about the syncro's but I was told there isn't one from neutral to first...don't know. I'm sure the clutch is fine, if someone is in the drivers seat with the clutch depressed and trying to shift into 1st, all I have to do is help the shift lever just a little bit and into first it goes.

 

How about the shift cable? Has anyone changed one of these?? I'm sure it's not the tranny.

 

no cable, has a rod, its the clutch and pressure plate not letting the engine totally dislocate from tranny to move into the gears. or like they said the sencral mesh gears are wore.
