Default tranny problem

Ok let’s see if I can explain what happened. I was merging onto the freeway, trying to get in front of the slow pack on the onramp. I brought it up to about 9000 rpms in first and second and then when I went to shift into third it wouldn’t go in. As I pushed the peddle in for the clutch it like popped and it seemed like it just slipped out of gear. I couldn’t get it to go back into gear at all. By reving it and trying different gears I got it into 4th. I still couldn’t shift normal but I could shift if I match the revs and shift that way. When I come to a complete stop I can’t get it in 1st. I got it home and looked around some. When I push the clutch peddle it almost feels like I have a cable tranny and the cable is rubbing or pinched on something. Also I saw that the reservoir for the clutch was empty, so I filled that up and bleed the line but still nothing. I can put it in 1st if the car is turned off and I can start it in first and go (the car doesn’t like it but it does go). If the car is on I can’t get it in any gear at all. I think that’s everything, anybody have any idea what it could be?

Thanks for your time
Keith

check 2 things. first - get under the car and watch the shifter linkage. have a buddy hold in the clutch with engine off and try to shift through the gears. what you are looking for is the linkage binding up. somehting may have bent or popped loose, so check both rods thoroughly. if that doesn't work, then take the linkage loose from the tranny. have your buddy hold the clutch in while you try to shift the tranny manually at the tranny. if you still have problems, then you have probably done what many of us have at high RPM and bent a clutch fork which requires disassembly. the good news is that if you bent a fork you can install some better synchros during rebuild.
