not to astray from topic... can you use a USDM ECU with the jdm engine... will it be legal anywhere but california?

I'm planning on getting a jdm d15b and boosting it so i'd like to hear more about this

 

you can use the ecu to run the motor, as far as legality goes i dont know.

 

Can I use a P06 (from a 92 civic dx)? Would it work without chipping the ECU or do I have to chip it to add vtec/knock sensor, etc.?

im using a p28 from a ex 94 and its runnin pretty good but its on the rich side a lil
but im trying to find the right ecu to buy (p08)

ive used p06 for my jdm d15.....only for smog , i have no problem with it , plug and play . I dont believe you can chip a nonvtec ecu to make it vtec......p06 doesnt have vtec , so i just use a p28 on regular basis. And d series dont have a knock sensor.

you CAN chip/program a nonvtec ecu to have vtec. lots of people have done it. i've got a p06 running my d16z6 right now

 

yeah that's what i thought.. i think uberdata does it..i'll check

 

oh ok ......i dont know much about uberdata just thought it was good program to tune turbo cars besides the pricey hondata.but unless you know how to socket/chip ....and know how to use the uberdata program ...its cheaper just to buy a p28 ecu.

 

it's not the presence of uberdata that makes an ecu a vtec ecu or not. I had my p05 chipped to run my jdm d15b by xenocron. chris is a cool dude and does good work. not to mention cheap

 

So to put in a JDM D15 you have to change the ECU and wire in VTEC? Other than that its plug and play? Thanks.

 

depending on your year model there might be more complications involving the engine harness. search man, everything's been covered once already

 

i have a d15b in my 95 civic coupe, i had to swap my old mounts onto the d15b and the i switched to a p.08 ecu and wired vtec, this was 3 wires total, vtec ground, vtec solinoid, and vtec pressure plate i went to a junk yard and pulled some ecu pins my self and got the two vtec plugs that were on vtec harness, made my own harness from the motor strait to the ecu. pm me if you have questions

 

i don't think you even have to change the ecu at all... all you have to do is chip it.. why spend 100+ for ecu when you can chip it for almost free (besides the tools required which are about 100 as well but then you can change your ecu settings as you see fit)

 

i passed smog no problem what so ever
jdm d15b
i used p28 ecu, i had to...
wire up the vtec, and the 4-wire o2sensor with new o2 sensor
i get unbelieavable 35+mpg on highway , and 30mpg street but w/CX tranny

turned into a different thread with little help on the question which was initially asked.

 

you can chip add hardware to any computer almost to do anything u want.. i chipped a p05 ecu for a friend.. made it read 4 wire o2.. made it run vtec. and its running a program for a b16 and its fine.. just kinda little bit of stuff you need to add to the board to make things work

yes chris does do very nice work.. my friend ordered everything from him .. po5 to vtec everything to socket chip the ecu and the 4 wire o2 conversion and obdo to obd1 harness... EVERYTHING had FULL detailed instructions.. i was very happy.. so far the best stuff i have worked with so far
