What do u get from the owner to make the engine legit?

Ok my friend is giving me an engine and since i am bothered(by the police) now and i am stock i know its gonna be worst after the swap. So what do i have to get from my friend to show the cops that its legit not stolen???

well it matters if its a single cam cops dont really care but thats in my city cause they know what to look for. Buut if your moving up to dohc just a copy of the title will do. Thats to match the vins. That what i did and im pretty posivte that is all you need.
