How can you tell the difference, in appearance, on a motor with....

Auto and Manual? I know this is a pretty noob question, but I would like to know.
If you looking at the motor, how would you know that, then, and there, if it was a manual or auto, here is an example:



This is a Manual cause someone took out the Tranny right?

 

the motor is a motor, the tranny decides if its manual or auto... you can bolt a manual tranny to a motor that came auto from the factory and vice-versa

So my car is a manual... and let's just say i bought a auto motor. Switching out the tranny would ..... make it work?

 

Look on the side of the engine where the transmission bolts up - do you see a solid cast iron flywheel, or a steel plate with a bunch of holes? If it has a thin steel plate the the engine was originally bolted to an automatic transmission.

If there's neither then it will be nearly impossible to tell, and honestly it doesn't make a difference anyways.

The engines are interchangable regardless of what type of trans was originally bolted to it.

there is no such thing as an auto motor. if your car is a manual, then you already have the hydraulic lines for the clutch, so all you need is a manual tranny (with shift linkage) and a manual ecu.

There will either be a flex plate , automatic, or a flywheel , manual.

To fit a manual transmission on an automatic motor or visa versa all that needs to be done is swap these parts.

 

even if it was connected to an auto tranny and had a tq converter and plate on it, you just need to remove them and put on the flywheel.
My b18 engine was from an auto

 

from the last picture you show it looks like you have a flexplate on there, so you will need a flywheel and new flywheel bolts and a manuel tranny

huh? where do you see that

i see nothing connected to the tail of the crankshaft.

 

Could u then hook up a 6 spd somehow? Aren't there conversions for 6 spds?

Yes it's called buy a K20A swap from an Acura RSX Type S and do the full swap and spend over $7,000.00 at he very least.

...but a 6-speed on a B18B engine? Not unless you get some custom $10,000.00 Quiafe if they even make one, which I don't think they do.

on the new engine its and auto the only diffrence, throttle boddy hasa kick down cablefortheauto tranny, andi am pretty sure the cams are slightly diffrent then 5 speed cams. atlease the d16z6 auto-5speed and b16 auto-5 speed cams differ....might wanta search it thou. other than that get a flywheel and clutch, the fidanza lighten flywheels are nice, they free up some engine power....hope this helps u

 

this guy made a custom 6 speed tranny for an old Corvette and on the highway he did somethin like 80mph at 1200rpm. The topspeed was nuts, but cost effectivly, it was unpractical.

Anyway, See that number on the motor? Take that to honda, maybe you can find out what car it came from, and see what that car was OEM. With a B18, the difference in wear on a auto over a manual is almost negligable anyways.

You can do a lot of homework, and check all the sensors on your harness, im sure there is a sensor for auto cars thats not plugged the same way on a manual car. Ya can check the ECU if it came with the motor.
