Default Shift Linkage Removal. How do you disconnect it? 88 Si D16a6

Hey guys

I had some kick *** pictures on my new camera but this is my first time using it so I cant get them to upload off the camera yet. I pretty much finished taking out my motor today minus the radius rod bolts cause I didnt have a 17mm wrench and this ******* shift linkage. I didnt even attempt the linkage because I knew it was trouble, just looked at it for a minute and snapped some good pics.

I remmber reading about a bitch pin or something and thats what cause the linkage to release ? I dunno

One of the rods coming form the shifter disconnect from the tranny housing with just 2 12mm nuts right? and the other linkage is the one that is the huge problem to remove?

Can someone tell me exactly how to remove this in order to remove the motor

The car is a 88 Crx Si with a Sohc ZC motor

btw-I will be back with pics after when I find the time to figure this out
thanks

Heres what I did when I did/ do swaps. Its much easier then trying to pound out the B-pin under the car. I unhooked the shifter and stabilizer rod (from tranny as well) and then just pulled the motor and tranny all at once. Then once it was where I could get at it easier, I got the proper size punch and pounded the pin out and removed the linkage and then put it on the other tranny that was going back in. The only thing you have to watch for is putting it on upside down, lol that sucked! Good times under the car with a hammer....

Good luck

there is a boot in one of those linkage.... push it away towards the tranny... and then there is a clip that is protecting that pin.... so take the clip off its think its a called C clip... and then take a 8mm pin punch and punch away... just be careful not to lose the pin and the clip to reuse it again...

it would be great if you had a helms manual with you....

if you still dont get what i am saying stay under the car for a long time and you will figure out what i am saying....

You are supposed to use a new pin each time. They are really cheap. I am about to do mine and held off until I could find an 8mm roll pin punch as you said.

well my car is only lifted on jack stands will I be able to pull it all out at once?

I may just rig up something with my socket extensions and punch it through the top looking down on the motor is that possible?

Im gonna try and get pics up now

and where exactly does it disconnect at the back?

I guess Im still gonna disconnect the one only held on by the 2 12mm bolts and pull the actual linkage out with the motor

Thats the way to go, trust me on that. If you cant find the B-pin, theres a rubber boot and you have to pull it back and there is a snap ring that goes around where the pin is located. Youll know what Im talking about once you see it. Good Luck

Well just to update this for anyone who ever searches for it again

I actually recommend moving the linkage with the engine in.

What I did:
1-found a drill bit that would not slide through the pin (sit on top) but was small enough so it would go all the way through the hole that the pin was pushed into (i think the dril was a 1/4"),

2-found a 3foot piece of broom stick and drilled one end about 1 1/2" with the drill bit you just picked up

3-push/press the end of the drill bit into the hole with the (i kept the dull bottom part of the bit facing out, this will become your punch)

4-take your newly formed spear and from the top of your engine bay, locate your bitch pin and center your punch on there

5-take a nice size ******* hammer and ******* wail down, took me about 8 solid smacks for it to pop out, wasnt hard, im sure they might be sometimes, liquid wrench would do some good if it was

6-look for the itty bitty pin that just popped out, took me another 5 min haha

7-*OPTIONAL* realize your ghetto and swapping motors in your driveway with handmade tools

Anyways, its out, now I just gotta pick up the lift I rented tomorrow and out comes this motor
