The bottom end should handle 10000rpm...but will you be making power there?

what is "ETC..."
what else is done to the block? what cams?

you need to find out the mean piston speed. a b16a has the shortest stroke and it can handle 10k with built bottom end. im not sure how much longer the stroke is on a b18, depending on the stroke, it could probably take 10k too.

ok, i looked into it, and a b18 with a better bottom end, can run about 9k. not much more. there is an article in dsport. they built a turbo b16 and it makes like 360hp up to 8200 rpms, but since they had it re tuned (because the rev limiter hadnt been moved) it makes like 458hp at just under 10k..
there is also a table in there that shows piston speed, the b18 being right about 9k before it gets risky (with a better bottom end).

coming from a built Ls/vtec

all I can say is this if u have faith in the guy who build it then I would say tune it and find out where the power is made

but if not stay safe and don't do passed 9000 rpms

my builder made his old Purple Crx rev to 10,500 rpms on a big Ls/vtec

so anythign is possible if it is done correctly

i think i am gonna answer your question this way... when your cams stop making power, shift gears, dont rev any higher than that. if you have cams that make power to 10k rev to 10k nothing more. Be sure if you are gonna come close to 9k to put something to hold those mains together better than the oil between them. Something like a girdle should work nicely.

Longer the stroke, shorter the redline, everyone knows this, that's why honda set the LS redline low from the factory. Rev above the LS redline and it'll work, but the reliability decreases. One of my customers had his turbo ls/vtec set at 9500, it ran fine...until the rings went out less than a year of hard driving later.

With a built head like you have here, the bottom end should take up to a 9000 Rev Limit consistently with no problems.

We have seen similar setups run at 9000 and 9200 consistently without any problems. I have mine set at 9200 for almost 2 years now.

I would say anything over 9000 gets a little risky though and you need to make sure you are making power up that region for it to make any sense. This will depend on what cams you are using.

Tune your vehicle to where your power starts falling off and set your Rev limit there - if it is above 9000 use common sense please !!!!

Rev Limit: (8.5 Safe; 9K OK; >9K Risky)

An 8500 rev limit should be safe and should accomodate the full power of most cams for street use (ITR/CTR/Aftermarket Stage I cams).
