Need help getting an aftermarket tach to work properly
Hi, a friend of mine has a Matrix tachometer. She hooked it up and it's not working properly. When the factory tachometor would say her engine is at 4000rpms, her aftermarket tach would say she's at 1000rpms. Anybody know how to get it to work properly? She can't find the manual anymore so I don't really know what to read up on or how to install it. I haven't even seen the wires to it or how it works. Anybody know what I can do about it and how to get it to work? A detailed explanation of how many wires there are on the tach and what to connect where would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Peace.
A wire to a 12v power source and a wire to the battery? Wouldn't the battery be the same as a 12v power source? So there should be only three wires coming out of the tach right? A 12v, a ground, and a signal wire right? Thanks for the help man.
Okay well... she had some other person install it. She said that when it was first installed, the RPMs were offset by about 3k. Currently it's not moving at all. The only thing that works right now is the lighting which means the 12v and the ground is connected fine. I just took a look and the signal wire from the tach (A Green Wire) isn't hooked up at all... Probably came loose. I found a wire that sounds like the blue wire you described except it has like a yellow or a white stripe on it. Is that the one? It has a harness at the end of it. I tried shoving the tach's signal wire into it just to test it out and got nothing. Would it make a difference if I were to cut off the harness and crimp the wire directly on it? Thanks for the help mang. Peace.
