Swapped ECU's... now Check Engine Light is on
I drive a '99 Gs-R and about 30k miles ago, I swapped ECU's and put in a chip someone gave to me. They said it was J-Spec chip and that it would modfiy the air fuel ratios and give me more power. All I know about the chip is it was OBD-I because I needed a wire harness to convert from my OBD-II wiring. I recently decided to throw my stock OBD-II chip back in because I think the modified chip wasn't tuned properly for my setup.
Now a few hundred miles after I put the stock chip back in the Check Engine light has come on. Any ideas why this could have happened? I remember when I put the modified chip in a while back, the guy told me my check engine light might come on and that it wasn't a big deal, had something to do with swapping the chips. Is it common for the check engine light to come in after swapping chips and such? Thanks...

Excuse my newby-ness but is there any easy way for me to do that? Is there a reasonably priced tool that will alow me to extract the error code from the chip, or should I just go to a shop and have them do it for me? It would be nice to be able to do it myself in the future, but if its not worth the price I'll just go to a shop. THanks...
