quick ref question obd1 and obd2
im going to put a obd2 gsr motor in my obd1 car (eg) and planing to keep it obd1 can i ref it like that or would i have to convert it to obd2
See if I can make this easy to read...
From engine to shock tower, use the obd2 harness. From shock tower to ecu, use the obd1 harness. They'll plug right in. Use an obd1 ecu. Done.
I also had to modify my map-sensor a bit, but I have an LS. On my EH the map-sensor was mounted on the firewall. On my new motor the map-sensor was located on the IM. Simply pulled the three wires out and ran them to the new location.
I believe since you retain the obd1 ecu, you wouldn't have issues with inspection.. But i live in Omaha and we don't have any out here. So who knows.

i have all the sensors and stuff for the obd1 motor, can i just switch over all the obd1 sensors/wires and stuff to the obd2 motor and use the obd1 harness??
Are you trying to make it run good or is this to pass an inspection type-thing? For inspection I don't know the requirements... but.
To get it running there is no need to do all that.
I started buying injectors and a dizzy and a bunch of **** that is still taking up valuable garage-space
. I did what was in my previous post (plus vtec wires etc.) and she pulls as hard as any LS is supposed to pull.
Which in reality leaves alot to be desired

Yeah i saw the title, but I dont know what the hell ref means, so thats why I ask.
If you have all the obd1 stuff and use an obd2 longblock you should be fine. That would be completely converted to obd1 and they'd never know the difference.

If engine swaps are completely illegal out there your fucked.
If not, putting a newer year engine in your car is fine as long as you don't throw codes. period.
As for a number, try a phone book slick.

I realize it sounds offensive, but really. Look up the number to the place that'll be doing the testing and ask them. If you can't find that number I guess I'd start with the DMV maybe?
no prob. thanks, the phone book didn't even come to my mind until you mentioned it. guess i'll start there. anyways if anyone else know anythings please shine in some light
