Default 1991 Hatchback. Having Problem, and Half Shaft Question..

the car is a 1.5l, 4-Speed. The car has gotten pretty slow over the last year or so. car cant even get out of its own way. Getting on the freeway with it is pretty scary aswell.

Here are my problems:
*The car has gotten really slow(slower) over the last year. And Has been getting pretty bad gas mileage. (even with a complete tuneup)

*Car over heats on the freeway, but Is just fine sitting in traffic for hours. Only on the freeway. Turning on the heater helps, but when its 100* out side that sucks.

*Drivers Half Shaft recently went out, And no one knows what im talking about when I tell them its not an DX, EX, or LX. And I was wondering if those half shafts work on a std model.

But I need to figure out the half shaft problem. Need to get one asap cant have the car like this for much longer..

i'm not sure about the std, but there are no ex or lx hatchbacks. i would reason it's comparable to the dx for half shafts. call the dealership and ask what it's comparable to, then call the part shops.

for your overheating, sounds like your thermostat. quick, cheap. you can inspect it, but on a 91 it's probably time to replace it.

and for those half-shafts, don't be afraid to give them a tug. i've taken them off a 87 and an 88, don't be afraid to get medieval on them. but don't get destructive.

congrats on your new ride!

I tried telling the people at kregens that, but they told me that there is such thing as an EX and LX Hatchback

So DX=STD Half Shafts? They are the same?

nope, the dx and std halfshafts are not the same, have the parts store check under a crx hf, both share the smaller hub spline

There are no half-shafts (read: 2-piece axle) on the hatches unless you have a Zc tranny! There is either a drivers side (short) or the passenger side (long) axle. Only the Teg's came with the half shaft.

As for the motor i would say the SOHC Vtec. There is much more after market support and you get vtec.
