drive shaft problems
I am one to store my car during the winter... as I live in WI. and our winters are, well....not purty.. Anyway, i took my car out on a nicer day for a quick spin, and in 3rd-5th gears while traveling at any speed, upon anymore than 15% throttle my car would rattle to ****... it was scary. My problem is, this happened last year when it was cold, but i drove it the day before it happened this second time, and it was fine... And last year it went away when it got nicer out. A tech at Acura of Brookfield, told me my intermediate driveshaft had lots of play, and told me not to drive it until it was rebuilt, but like i said.... the problem just disappeared, and is now back almost exactly a year later.. if you are familiar with my dilema, please educate me! was the tech right?? im rebuilding my engine this year, and dont mind spending the 175 to have my shafts rebuilt, but im just wondering if anything else could be contributing... thanks for reading
wow that's scary. I have the same problem and I live in WI too
It's too damn cold outside to fix it but my cars in the garage again for winter.
I just notice a vibration in the pedals and in the car.
I remembered what a guy on hondavision told me. He said the intermediate shafts are notorious for going bad. I ask him how I could tell it's going bad and he just said "trust me, you'll know" well as undescriptive as it sounds, I'm pretty sure that's my problem too.
I would def. get it fixed. If it breaks, it can do some bad damage.
Anyways, GL on urs and Ill hopefully have the sol running around too this summer. Where are u located in WI?

im pretty sure that the big bearing for the intermediate support goes out and needs to be replaced. Just the metal piece that the bearing is housed in from Acura is around 130 bones.......ouch. Im not sure how much the bearing is.

well guys the acura tech did tell me there was play in the shaft and rebuilding it would fix it.. and rebuilding it is like 175 but then i get a lifetime warranty!!
thanks for your help and suggestions, ill post back in spring with the results and hopefully this can be a useful thread

Oh, that's not my car. BUT that car is one of the most badass sol's i've ever seen. GSR with a Drag 3 turbo
That thing is QUICK.
Im actually inside of Mequon.
Im hoping my problem is the shaft, but im not 100%. I think im taking the engine out anyways for a build so this kinda came at a good time

will this fix my problem??? or should i just have the shaft rebuilt, and on top of that get the bearing and seal??

We're not 100% sure that this is the problem. Personally I'd have the shaft rebuilt, and then go from there. The lifetime warranty is worth it anyways.

For that price, I'd just buy a used one.
I haven't seen any int. shafts go bad. The inboard joint on the driver-side axle usually goes bad first.
