Default 2001 Civic Engine/Tranny swap...

Ok, planning on doing either an engine swap with a tranny, or just a tranny swap on my 2001 civic ex. The most logical option seems to be just doing the manual transmission swap (it's currently an auto). The other option, and the reason for my question is maybe doing a D16Y8 swap into the civic. I am assuming that it will mount ok since it IS a D-series engine. I wish we could just do a K20 swap but I think that the budget will restrict us from doing that.

The purpose of getting the whole D16Y8 swapped in would be simply for a little more options as far as modification seeing as how it has more aftermarket support than the D17. But just ditching the auto is the primary goal.

Basically my questions are...
What are some good sites to find used transmissions?
Some sites for engines/complete swaps?
And will the D16Y8 work in the 7th gen body?
Oh yeah, and just how hard will the manny tranny conversion be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

unfortunately, they are no motor mounts whatsoever that will fit a D16. fabricate your own?

think of it like this, the D17 is the "bastard child" of the d-series engines. probably 99% of the parts aren't compatible with previous d-series engines.

if you really want a manual swap, it has been done with a straight up d17 tranny, look into it, or go k-series while you're at it

after keeping up with the car a lot, i think there's enough aftermarket support right now NA for the D17s out there. with similar mods, i think it's almost safe to say the extra .1 liter helps

FI, i can't say the same, but there's sick boosted kits and setups out there.

That's what I thought. I just don't look much into the single cam scene so I don't know as much as I should. I guess the D17's manual will have to do, unless the cash for a K20 could be pulled out of my ***... I wish...

Thanks!

Nice Civic by the way. I like that look alot. I have an 01 Prelude, and the 01 Civic (girlfriend's). I love to see these 7th gen's getting work done simply cause they are so unpopular for whatever reason as far as tuning is concerned...

IMO the 7th gen civic is the nicest looking civic made yet aside from the em1 and im seriously considering buying one in the winter as my daily driver when my teg gets put away for BOOST

i agree , but i'm biased of course. the em2's and es1's took awhile to get on previous owner's like list, but it'll grow on you.

same for the 06s+ and so on, i'm saying they're ugly as **** right now, i'll probably be liking it later (or not)

I'm not saying they aren't out there, there are zillions of them around here. It's just that 98% of them are stock, and the other 1% are getting tailights and rims, the final 1% are the one's I'm talking about. The 7th gen's people are actually modifying. So far I have seen two here in Sarasota and one was from outta state (boosted and sickly fast) the other one surprised me when it pulled right beside my prelude in first but kinda started falling behind in second and third, i was very impressed that it was as quick as it was...

cheapest swap you could do would be a k20a3. 160 hp 140 ish tq. 800 bucks bought me the entire swap minus axles and a catalytic converter.

unless you have a good source, i'll see what honda calls it. the 1.8L will have i-vtec, perhaps it'll be a k18 for all we know. isn't there going to be 1.4l and 2.2l versions as well... (in europe at least)
