Is there another way to do this? has anyone done it?

yes. no. yes.
ive done it as have quite a few others. do a search on s2ki. you can either get a 02+ top and swap it with some minor mods or you can order one from some place thats sells on ebay.

me, personally, if I had an ap1 with the plastic window i would either swap to the top w/ glass window, or, if I wasn't concerned with the softop, buy a hard top.

I've never understood why everyone is so anti-plastic-rear-window... I mean, the older plastic design is lighter, gives a better view thanks to the larger size... It holds up pretty well. I mean, my plastic rear window is going on 6 years old and is still crystal clear and looks nearly new.
Sure the glass window gives you the advantage of a defroster. But I can't ever remember a situation where I would have needed a rear defroster on this car. And 90% of the time the roof is open anyway.
So anyway, I could care less what the rear window is made off...

I some what agree on the light wight of the window. I read a lot about the cars and it was everyones recomendation to get the glass window. I am close to making my purchase. I will probably go with a earlier s2000 with the plastic window. I might get a new piece of plastic if it is dirty/scratched. The ones i looked at seemed to be ok.
Thanks for all of your replys.
Let me know if anone tries the conversion from http://cabrioworld.com/secure/...D=315

eh, i think the plastic is cheap...if you don't take care of it, it ends up looking like **** down the road...plus it folds in half when the top is down, so you have the seems from it folding...
