Default spherical bearing noise??help

have bearings (progress) on the radius rods on my 91 hatch and they seem to creak...there is no play in them but if you push up and down on the radius rods with car in the air they seem to "knock"...yes eveything is tight and when i installed them about 7000 miles ago they didnt do this...anyone else experience this?

Yeah, they all do that. There's a reason manufacturers use rubber bushings for street cars...

hit it with some WD-40 to get rid of the creaking.

After 7K miles they might be getting worn, and the only way to fix that is to replace them.

I disagree. An oil-type lubricant will attract grit to the bearing surfaces and cause them to wear faster than they do already.

This is true. You don't need to get the replacements from Progress. Just remove C-clip that holds the rod-end/bushing into the race and take it to any local industrial bearing house. Buy spares. They're pretty cheap.

My experiece with spherical bearings in the suspension joints is that at high speed tracks like Willow Springs, they tend to wear rapidly. After a weekend and a half at Willow Springs, my front lower inner bearing expelled all its gutts. The rear actually didnt have to be replaced.

its a wear item now! might have to replace it.

Thats why I run High quality stainless bearings rated at 26000lbs each and are NON teflon lined so the teflon doesent come out of the bearing.

They do wear out. You have two options when you start getting play. Either get the teflon sleeved ones and/or getting the rod end seals. The seals will help a bit and extend the life of the rod end by hopefully keeping the dirt out.

That's funny the Evo 8 has sphericals they don't have any problems. As for the progress kit they use a soft mild steel with a very thin wall and loose clearances on the misalignment's which can not withstand over torque the bolts without damage, as for the bearings they use the teflon liners fail then you have metal against metal which will squeak and also becomes very loose which will cause a lot of knocking.
so as long as you use a good bearing with a high quality liner, and misalignment's with a sufficient wall thickness that can handle the loads you will never have any problems.

They'll last longer if they're greased and have dust seals.

mine does too. 27k miles on my EVO. not loud enough to hear when regular driving, but they pop and clunk a bit when moving the car around in the driveway, etc.

these types of joints will make more noise compared to conventional rubber bushings, etc. i consider that would be of no concern in a racecar! if you have these kinds of joints on your car, inspect them on a regular basis for wear and play and you should be OK.....

yes...not while driving....when you pull into a space or driveway...there is no play foreward or backward...only if i push up or down on the radius rods...of course my setup is g.c. 600 f/650r with koni's urethane bushings with exception of front control arm and radius rods metal...22mm rear sway and 19mm front...

Well if your hearing clunking noises there has to be play which means there's damage, If there is no play or damage, its imposible for there to be any noise, yes it's a litte more harsh on bad roads but its not all that bad, it wont ever make poping noises. You might want to check the rest of you suspension.

I will check the bearing size on Friday and give you the part number for the sphericals. I'll look up some different bearings and show a price and some static strength numbers.

This is what we use on our car and has not given us any problems, yet. Formula link kit.
