Default D-series build

Well after blowing my dx motor and doing a little research on swaps, I have come to the conclusion that I am going to build a D15 for boost. If anyone has around 300 whp on a fully built d-series, please let me know your setup. I want do this and really I need to know if it is possible to get this much power out of a daily driven d-series. Post your setups and power.

it is possible but hardly worth it IMO... you would need pistons, rods, probably have to get it sleeved, and lots of headwork... then on top of it your turbo...to get 300 whp out of a turbo d series you would have to push at least 15-18 psi into it.. just my .02

Yea I plan on doing this over the next year and I will get head work done. I just want to know some setups and brands that would be good enough to support a lot of boost.

here are some things I would suggest since they are what I am using in my build

stock sleeves should be ok for 300 hp
tuner toys rods they are only 225
race engineeing block guard 99 bucks
vitara pistons
comp/zex cam part number 59300
arp head studs
d16y8 intake mani and integra TB
JRC intercooler (I am usin a dsm sidemount for the sleeper look)
any BOV
you are gonna need a pretty healthy turbo......a lot bigger than what I am gonna use
you will need to run an external wastegate....don't go cheap here
bmc makes a quality cheap manifold and downpipe combo
uberdata if obd 1 turboedit if obd0

there are tons more things but yeah the random maintance stuff...new bearings timing belt water pump you know all that......just a few suggestions I still need to get alot of things. yeah dude go for it represent the d-series it can be a good little b killer if done right

why use a d15, why not a d16z6 or d16y8. Just my $0.02

I want to build a D15 because I already have it and I don't want a "swapped" crx. I want to keep the original motor and build the hell out of it. Now I do plan on boring it out but it will still be a D15 block. Thanks for everything guys and keep the suggestions coming. Also if anyone has this stuff and wants to get rid of it then pm me.

no... you dont have to. I had my mini me running pre-obd and use to activate vtec through a switch.. but it runs a lot better now that its obd1 w/ p28

Hmm... well I think it can be done fairly easily and it will be very worth it.

You don't need to sleeve for that much power. Just go with some forged pistons and rods. Then make sure you have the correct size turbo and good turbo system components.

I'm going to do it. I just picked up a bare block and am going to start assembling it within the next few weeks. I will be shooting for 250-300 or where ever my 450s and T3 .48/.60 max out.

Good luck.

Long live the D-Series!

Love my Turbo D!

I've done DOHC too much, so I decided to go D this time.

What would be a good turbo setup to run on a built D that would give me 10-15psi of boost and not have a lot of turbo lag?

I'd say t3/t04 with .48 hotside or SC34. 300whp and lag go hand in hand on a 1.6L. Or get a GT28RS. I know a bunce of the g.vitara piston users run 15-18 psi (~8.5:1 CR), and I thought I saw at least a few 300+ stock sleeve D's in the archives.

If people are running 230+ on a stock block/head, I don't see a problem with 300 with rods+pistons+cam. I'd be easier with a good intake & exhaust manifold.
