Blown compression rings on a B16A. Going to tear the head off to check.
Hey fellas!
I have a B16A (first generation) in my 00 Si with possible compression rings blown or cracked. The compression test came back reading #1 cylinder 70 psi and the other 3 @ 170 psi. The leak down test gave a 65% loss of air which really sucks. The leak can be heard down in the crankcase area. I am planning on doing this myself with some help of friends.
I need a little advice from you all that have done this. I have the Helms and I am going through all the steps and will be getting the appropriate tools from the dealership, or a good Auto store. Upon inspection after taking the head off we will be able to see if the piston is cracked as well. I am sure the ringlands have started to go since this car is boosted. Let me know of some good pointers so this replacement can go smoothly as possible. I do plan on getting the head checked out while it is off. Thanks!
