Default just done a compression test. need help

1st cylinder 140
2nd cylinder 55
3rd cylinder 130
4th cylinder 140

i boosted my 00 si yesterday and it started smoking at 5lbs of boost. im thinking its either the rings or the head gasket. its not over heating and it running the same. what are some of your opinions? i going to buy parts on monday.

yep, there is a definite problem with your engine then. You could have burnt a hole in ur piston, fried ur rings, maybe even valve seats, or if ur lucky it's just a headgasket.

What are you using for tuning, fuel/ignition ??

Basically, imo theres no need to worry about testing any further, you're going to have to pull the head regaurdless, so just pull ur head and find out whats going on in there.

fyi
u dont wana drive on an engine like this
u'll tear up ur cyl walls if it is rings.

then a rebuild will require a rebore, not just hone

anyone recommend a leak down test ?? compression tests are good, but leak down gives you the real 4-1-1 on whats wrong.

i had a similar problem a while ago, and it was due to a valve not sitting because the tune was too rich, so i had the head taken off, and re-cut the seat, and got another valve, and bam everythign was fine again. i just got it tuned by mase, and so now it is running 10x better that it was before.

so dont go tearing it down... but DO STOP DRIVING IT ! find the problem first you dont. want to make matters worse.

just my .02

Do the leakdown test, it will show you what your problem is.

wet compression test will tell you if it's you rings or not. Though with the numbers being that low, it's not just rings. A leakdown test will let you know if it's valves or headgasket.

I'd do both, but you diffenetly have something wrong that the heads going to have to come off to fix.

on a b16a?? anywhere from 185-210 across with very little variation from cyl to cyl. you need to get rif of that fmu. and if u happened to hook it up wrong and its not working right (i dont know how u could do this but its possible) then 5 psi could def smoke your motor. leak down test, then start buying parts

your ringlands are most likely dead from that fmu....youll probably need new pistons among other things

What did you do when you did the compression test, exactly what you did? also when you boosted your motor, did you do a compression test before? WHat kit did you use, and what FMU? DId you have a Fuel pump? What Kind of smoke are you blowing white, black? Does the motor hesitate, stumble at idle and part throttle? Did you retard the timing when you installed the turbo? were you running a chipped ECU? See where I am going, there are alot of questions here that need to be answered. It is just weird a stock b16 blowing like that. Something happened?????

If the compression test was done correctly then you need to take off the head and just start over, new rings, have the head cleaned and valves seated. Might as well get pistons and rods since it is off and boost is addicting.

Good luck
