compression problems
a few months ago i noticed a sudden lack of power in my teg, got a compression test done and got 120/180/180/180 (120 in cylinder 1); leakdown test concluded the same, somethings broken.
we've just removed the head on my b16a1 this arvo, had a look at the head gasket, and it seems to be fine; anything else that could be wrong? (whats the likelyhood that it could be piston rings?)
cheers, michael

Re: compression problems (Teken)
yeah - when i had the car running lots of air came out the oil filler cap - what would this indicate?
no - i didnt try putting some oil down the cylinder when doing the compression test, will try that though when i get it back together, thanks for the tip!
when i had the leakdown test done it indicated cylinder 1 was 10% loss, the rest were 5%.. with bubbles comin out the radiator cap, so one would assume the gasket? (however this doesn't seem to be the case); any other ideas?
much appreciated, cheers

Re: compression problems (mick)
im starting to wonder whether the problem is actually in the block, though it wasn't putting out any noticeable black/blue smoke..
going to get it pressure tested/check out the value seats in cylinder 1 next thurs, i'll soon find out whether its the head or the block i suppose..
thanks for all your input guys, much appreciated

Re: compression problems (mick)
right, got the head pressure tested/leak tested today, and it turned out fine!! valve seats are fine.. so im erring more on the side that the head was warped due to overheating? (problem is this isnt consistent with the condition of the head gasket (which was fine, no scorching or anything))

Re: compression problems (mick)
the only way i can think of a warping head is by pooring water on it after its been run hard... my guess is that you have a cracked cylinder or your #1 cylinder ring isnt sealing combustion properly... check both of those...

Re: compression problems (mick)
got piston 1 out, and the rings are fine!!!!!!!!
so im stumped.. anyone got any ideas? the head wasnt majorly warped, valves are seated properly, the rings in the cylinder that was down are fine.. only other thing i can think of is a warped block, but this seems unlikely since the head wasnt warped..
confused!
