Clutch bearing....what to do....
Hey folks,
I'm doing the D16Z6 swap. I have a DX and I bought an SI tranny. The tranny has about 180k km on it, maybe more. I should probably change the clutch bearing. Now, I don't really feel like spending the $55 cdn on a honda bearing. My DX tranny only has 140k km on it, mostly highway. Maybe I could use the DX bearing?
Anybody have suggestions? How important is it to change it?
Thanks

Well it's better to change it now than have to pull it all apart later. As far as it fitting, I don't see why it wouldn't. Just call Honda and see if it's the same part#. But I would recommend you just replace it, unless you're really short on cash.
Just for the record... I bought a LUKS clutch for my civic when I needed a clutch in a hurry. When I took the old original clutch out of my civic, it had the EXACT same bearing that came with the LUKS kit. The part numbers were the same, everything was the same, so if LUKS sells just throw out bearings, get one... I'll bet its cheaper than honda.
I know it'll fit, but how long do those bearings last? Would it be safe to use the one from my DX with only 140k km (about 85k miles)? I really don't want to spend the extra money on a stupid bearing....

throw out bearings will last for quite a while. my cluth was replaced at 124K and the berring was fine. if your doing your bearing do your cluth right a away too. no point in pulling trans and not going all out only to have to do it again next year

REPLACE THE CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING. when i put in my new clutch, about a week later my clutch release bearing cracked causes me to drop the tranny again. i got a release bearing at autozone for about 20 bucks. i would really recommend getting a new one.
