My tranny is quiet when I push the clutch in. However when I take my foot off the clutch it get really noisy. Which bearing is this, throw out or input shaft. Also my gears kind of wind - could this be caused by the same bearing or could it be the tranny?

Btw its a ob1 gsr tranny in a 93 civic.

and how do i adjust my clutch engage point- its all the way near the top ever since I changed my clutch master and slave cylinder. I want it closer to the floor board.

Its the input shaft bearing. My dx tranny did the same thing until i had it replaced with another dx trans. Whining also gets worse the longer you drive it. Mine sounded like a supercharger, hehe

cool- thanks- should i just replace the input shaft bearing? and that is casuing the winding noise too?

it could be your pilot bearing on the flywheel. if your gears are starting to wine. it has alot of wear on the gears. if you disengaged the clutch and you hear a wine sound most likely its your release bearing engaged the clutch and most likely its your pilot bearing.

Well since my gsr is turboed i bought an ls tranny and swapped it out. My 2 month old release bearing was bad- very noisy and gritty and a seal broke from it and was rubbing against the middle teeth. I am sure thats what was causing it- I had no shaft play so I am sure that was the problem, my release bearing. Thanks for your help.

Also my clutch engage point is all the way at the top. I still push the clutch all the way down by force of habit- could this make my throw out bearing bad? Its done that ever since i swapped out the clutch master and slave cylinder on my stock d15 motor- I know the gsr motor came with its own slave cylinder so I am narrowing it down to my master cylinder if thats still the same or maybe i can adjust my pedal if its possible?

Yes, the Main Input Shaft bearing is a $20 part from Honda. It is the labor that costs on this.

i recently had this problem too...popped off the tranny replaced clutch release bearing and flywheel bolt it all back on only to find out my input shaft bearing is going bad.. i already had a 3rd gear synchro going out so i took it to my local shop and they said it would be cheaper just to get a new tranny (i read in the helms manual that the 3rd-5th gears are pressed) so i was wondering if this is true? so would it be cheaper to replace the tranny with a used one or rebuild the one i have and if i rebuilt it what all would i need? sorry, not trying ti hijack

There is an adjustment on the master cylinder for free play You need to either sorten or lengthen the arm to set it. There is a spec for it in the shop manual.

Ive been working a lot and havent had a chance to say....thanks a lot guys. Umm. Also, thanks about the how to on adjusting my clutch grab point through the master cylnder. I will look further into it today!
