Default 95 B18C Timing belt tensioner how does it go "bad"

Hey guys,

I'm about to buy a few spare parts so I can assemble my motor. One of the things I was looking at was the timing belt tensioner. I hear people saying to swap this out along with our timing belt. But I was wondering how does this part go bad? I'm wondering if it's just the spring that I should replace, because I dont see how the tensioner pulley would go bad.

what do you guys think?

The spring can become weak over time. The bearing in the pulley can also fail. Not sure how likely either scenario is.
