Default motor is running hotter than usual

motor is a stock d16y7. the temp gauge is reading about 1/2 or 3/4 when its usually at 1/3. ive narrowed down the problem to either a faulty thermostat or faulty thermosensor/coolant temp sensor. my fan doesnt kick in when its idling and the temp reaches 3/4. i stuck a paperclip into the wire harness on the sensor to keep the fan on constantly. when i drive it, idling or stopping makes the temp shoot up but constant motion w/ the rpm's around 2-3k lowers the temp to about 1/2. over 3k rpm and it heats up again.

sounds to me like your thermostate is stuck closed if you say the fan is on all the time. There not that much to replace nor anything hard to do so I would start with that.

If you still have the problem check out the sensor and have the coolant checked out, it could just be old and lost its ability to cool the car properly (Happens after like 5 yrs) or you could have a build up in the system restricting your flow but Id bet its the thermostat or sensor in that order.

has this proplem been going on since then?

If so you propably have an air bubble in the system somewhere. could still be a sensor or thermostat but air buble is a possibility now.

That's why his fan is on constantly. So it can't be because his thermostat is stuck open.

Maybe there is an air bubble in your system?
