Default water temp sensor???

so i noticed today that after a while of driving around my temp gauge was still pretty much at zero, would this be a temp sensor failure or a thermostat failure? what other posibilities are there???

thanks.
Nate.

Most likely the thermostat, if rad fan never comes on then definitely the thermostat, if however the rad fan does turn on then it can be the ECT sensor, the gauge itself, or connections between them.

How does engine run, does it run smoothly, do you get heat from vents? 94

Wow, seems like tons of questions this week where the answer is "stuck thermostat" lol.

That would be my guess also. Thermostats usually fail more often than sensors.

i do get heat from the vents quiet often, and my leggs get effing hot too! so then it would be thermostat? or ECT?

If you are getting good heat and rad fan turns on, then it is unlikely to be the thermostat. 94

The ECT/TW sensor sends a signal to the ECM only, not the gauge. The gauge has its own separate thermo sensor which is located right next to the ECT sensor.

To me, it sounds like the gauge sensor. I've experienced a bad temp sensor and open thermostat. My car eventually warmed up somewhat with an open thermo.

Like Targa said, there are two temp sensors. One for the ecu and one for the gauge. You need this one:

^then your fan switch on the thermostat housing is probably bad as well as your gauge sensor.

There are 3 temp sensors in that same area; ecu, gauge, fan switch.

Have you replaced the thermostat with an OEM Honda thermostat?

Do both fans turn on when you have A/C on full blast?

Wouldn't hurt. With all of the heat cycles these sensors go through, they do eventually crap out.
