Default Overheating at stoplight

Hey whats up, i just got a 88 Hatch with a b18b swap, and when i drive on highway my temp is normal, just below the half way mark... sometimes and i mean sometimes at stoplights it will increase all the way up to the red line, once i start moving again it goes back down to normal really quick... Any suggestions on what it might be?? Also this is not an everyday thing its like once a week... One more question i have is my idle is about 750, and jumps to 1.2k rmps allmost sounds like its gonna die somtimes i checked all my vacume lines for leaks and found nothing wrong.. Any suggestions would be great.. I am in Northern VA Area plan on doing some more mods to the car if anyone lives around here and wants to make some $$ lemme know cuz i dont wanna pay shop prices and also want to learn a little bit at the same time!

I'd put money on it being the fan. Mine would do the same thing. Check the fuse, Then if not that there is a relay on the pass. of the engine bay by the battery(that was the problem in my 88std)

Good luck

Squeesz your radiotor hose to kill excess air (bubbles).

Thanks everyone!! I fixed the problem. Today i did a full radiator flush and i tested out the fan and the fan was not running at all once it got over the half way mark. Soo i checked the fuses and the relays and their was no problems.. so i traced the wires from the fan back and found out that they went to a manual toggle switch inside the car and the wire had become disconnected so i hooked the switch back up and now its running great. Thanks again for the advice!
