Y8 Mini-Me
Yeah, I'm sure most of you are thinking go search the forum's for an article, and I have and recieved a lot of information, but I wanted to get some assurance.
I have a '90 Civic SI Hatch, with the D16A6 and I've read that I will not have the change the distributor, intake, and that the Y8 Head will bolt right up to all these parts. I wanted to be sure that this is true. I've seen all the posts about a Y7/Y8 Swap and then the D15B gone Mini-Me, but not so much with the D16A6 block.
I plan on using a Wiring Conversion Harness to adapt the OBD0 to OBDIIA, so that the P2P ECU will bolt right up, but I'ma bit confused on what wires go where. I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I heard that there is two wires from the VTEC Solenoid that needs to be connected, there's an O2 Sensor, and there was something else but I cannot remember. If Anyone could get me some help it would be appreciated.
Thanks ya'll.
Peace.

im considering this swap also so somone please respond. not to thread jack but does anyone konw how i can wire up my own harness adapter. i figure i would need the male clips off a obd 1 ecu harness, and the sockets off of the d16a6 ecu. ami thinking the right way or???????
ha i just remeberd the vtec is a4 on the ecu run from the green solenoid by the dizzy. and i think the other one is d6 for the oil pressure, which connects to the black connector right next to it. dont foget to ground. this is for obd 1 dont konw if it changed for obd 2

Here is a pic of one of my old hatchbacks with Y8 head and A6 block. http://server5.theimagehosting...2.jpg

If you go obd1 you cant use the A6 distributor. You will need the obd2 y8 distributor or the obd1 z6 distributor for it to work. The y8 one is a direct bolt on and should work fine on the obd1 p28 ecu.
Hope that helps, I am doing the same but on a d15b2.

obd0-0bd1 jumber harness will attach to the p28 and then to your stock harness.
You will need new distributer plugs to match what ever distributer you go with. Rywire sells adapters, or if you can find the clip at a junk yard its easy to splice into them.

The two wires should both go to the ECU. Search around for an ECU pinout diagram, and it will show you which pin to run the wires too. Also there is a ground wire from the solenoid that needs to be grounded.

hey man, I have an a6/y8 mini-me swap. I replaced the timing belt and headgasket with the OEM y8 ones. i reused the a6 head bolts, im not sure if that was a good idea or not...but i have had no probs yet. I also used the a6 intake mani, header, and dizzy. umm.. i kept it all obd-0 and got someone from dragva.com to chip my pm6 ecu so i could just run 1 wire for vtec. its programmed with the z6 fuel maps, launch control, and a 7200 rev limiter. and to be honest with you, it doesnt really feel that much faster than my a6...but I can definately feel it when vtec kicks in. hope this helps you!

What he said up above is true. It's only gonna be a little faster, and the best part is you have vtec, if you get the a6 block it's better because it's supposedly the best D series block ever built, havin the Y8 head is like extra cake with the a6 block, it's just perfect. I liked it alot when i had it, and it did run superB.

Not necessarily so.........I re-used the OBD0 plug from my old dizzy on the OBD1 dizzy. Just repin! The only 2 wires that you can't re-pin is the tach (blue) and the ign (blk/yl) on the 2-pin connector. I just did this like 2-days ago.

Suppsedly, some people say the Z6/A6, or Y8/A6 mini me swap, with i/h/e and a cam with some tuning, is quicker then a b16a, and to top it off, it's lighter, was talkin to a bud of mine about this, me and especially him would know, we both had mini me hatchbacks.
im not sure about that...all i have is an intake, lol. its decent tho. i dont have any complaints. anyways.....good luck with your swap man, if you have any questions...ill try to help ya!
most definetly convert to a full obd1 to take full advantage of the swap. other wise its a half *** job that you did for nothing. if you wnat to make it quick with honda parts, find a d15b head and use that or find the cam from the motor. the cam is more aggressive than the stock z6 or y8 and is comparable to a zex cam.
