turbo type r
Hi im sure this has been discussed before however id like some up to date opinions for my car specificaly.
right i own a 96 jdm ITR and up until recently was going to sell in favour of an evo or something similar but now im considering forced induction for my itr. the engine itself is fairly stock just heavy duty cluth, lightened flywheel and intake and leads done. It has done 150000 ks thou (duno wt tht is in miles). so all this considered would you guys still reckon i go ahead with a turbo project? alot of people have said type r's just arent ment to be turbo'd is tht the case?
any input would be great
Cheers

you will hear mixed opinions about turboing your R. Keep in mind with stock internals your looking at 7 psi MAX maybe even less of "safe boost" because the JDM R has a higher compression than the USDM or UK models. I suppose it does not make sense to turbo an R because you can get a lesser engine ie B18C1 or B18B and turbo that. These models have a lower compresion ratio to begin with and you get more total "bang for your buck".
The vortech supercharger seems to be the safest most reliable hair dryer. I think they clame 100 hp increase. Look into that.

dont listen to them....
get a cometic headgasket, knock the compression down to 9.5:1, and youll be happy with 10 psi. should put down well over 300whp and be one hell of a fun car to drive.

im bout to turbo my R real soon, going with a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo kit, inline pro SS log manifold, im gonna prolly run 2mm inline pro headgasket (drop cr down to about (9.6:1) hoping for mid to high 300whp around 1 bar..dont let the N/A junkies get to you, i had some friends with turbo R's that rode around 3-4 yrs with out blowing the motor, the Internals are good for boost IMO
